U.N. Seeks Ability To Govern U.S.

Posted by Cullin on April 19, 2009

Via AP:

The U.N. plans to override Obama’s absolution (as though it were necessary) of CIA operatives who engaged in enhanced interrogation techniques, and charge them with war crimes.

(AP) President Barack Obama’s decision not to prosecute CIA operatives who used questionable interrogation practices violates international law, the U.N.’s top torture investigator said Saturday.

On Thursday, Obama absolved CIA officers from prosecution for harsh, painful interrogation of terror suspects under the former Bush administration.

The announcement was met with disappointment from human rights groups and former detainees who condemned such methods as torture.

In a brief telephone interview with The Associated Press, Manfred Nowak, an Austrian who serves as a U.N. special rapporteur in Geneva, said the United States had committed itself under the U.N. Convention against Torture to make torture a crime and to prosecute those suspected of engaging in it.

“They are party to the convention and the convention is very, very clear,” Nowak said when asked to confirm comments contained in an interview he gave Austria’s Der Standard newspaper. “The fact that you carried out an order doesn’t relieve you of your responsibility,” he said, adding it could be a mitigating factor.

This kind of prosecution has yet to be committed and finished with criminals going as far back as the Holocaust, and the U.N. is trying to imprison those who keep us safe from terrorists?

And, the best part is, they want to make up for inconveniencing terrorists, calling them victims!

Nowak, who said he would soon travel to Washington for meetings with officials, also called for a comprehensive independent investigation into the matter and added it was important to compensate the victims.

We all know that everything in the U.N. is backwards and nonsensical, the real question to watch here is:  Will Obama roll over for the United Nations and give up our right to self govern?

Racism Circus

Posted by Cullin on April 18, 2009

Over at CBS, they have the story of how the Obama administration will be boycotting a UN racism meeting. I think this is the right action for the US. See, I can agree with Obama. The story here is the nature of the UN, and for what it is being used.

This meeting on racism is being used as a forum for countries to verbalize how much they hate Israel and the west. In 2001, when the Bush administration sent a delegation to the meeting, they had to walk out in the middle after a resolution was used to equate Zionism with racism and singled out Israel for criticism.

The UN is supposed to be an organization where countries have a fair representation, however it has turned into an organization that is used to punish the west and developed countries to prop up dictators in other countries. Do we need to drop membership in the UN? I don’t know, I really doubt it. But, there is a need for a restructuring.
